Elyse Knowles - Aveda 2018

No sand required.

If there’s one thing Australian model Elyse Knowles is known for, it’s her iconic tousled blonde hair. The effortless look Knowles wears so well is one we all covet as the warmer months approach. With summer just around the corner, the Aveda brand ambassador shared with Vogue the secrets to her post-beach hair and why she’s so drawn to natural beauty.

“When Aveda approached me it just felt right,” shares Knowles in an intimate video for the brand. “Not only have they got eco-friendly products but they care about our planet and it just connected with me so well.” Aveda is 98 per cent naturally derived, meaning the ingredients come from nature and so Knowles knows exactly what she’s putting on her hair. The brand has been committed to being cruelty-free since it was founded in 1978, with absolutely zero animal testing, and it’s also sustainable, using wind powered manufacturing processes and recycled packaging for all of its products. Interestingly, they were actually the first prestige beauty company to combine PCR and bioplastic for use in plastic tube packaging. “It’s important for me to buy products that are good for my hair, good for my skin, good for my body and are good for the earth,” shares Knowles.

As for how she achieves those shoreside natural waves even when she’s away from the beach? “The three products that I swear by are Damage Remedy Daily Hair Repair, Thickening Tonic and the Air Control Hair Spray,” Knowles shares. The first is a leave-in treatment that protects the hair, while the second is an at-home tonic that thickens and smooths, meaning Knowles’s hair appears healthy and dries perfectly without the frizz. Once dry, Aveda’s Air Control Light Hold Hair Spray is on hand to tame any flyaways and finish off the look.

Despite being free from parabens, silicones, phthalates, sulphates and petroleum, Aveda is packed with high-performance ingredients. The brand uses powerful plant-based ingredients that are still effective, so you’ll still see the results you’re coveting. For instance, even Knowles’s favourite hair spray, the Air Control, is made from pine-derived resin as well as organic jojoba and aloe, which all work to offer the hold you need without damaging the hair. Plus, the fragrances the brand uses are all created from pure flower and plant essences in its in-house Botanical Aroma Lab.
